Aayiram Vilakku Tamil Movie Review

Starring: Shanthnoo, Sathyaraj, Sana Khan, Kamal Kamaraju, Suja, Delhi Ganesh
Direction: S P Hosimin
Music: Srikanth Deva
Production: HMI Pictures

After his maiden directorial venture ‘February 14’, director S P Hosimin doubles up in Aayiram Vilakku as a producer too. With the help of the lead cast of Shanthanoo, Sathyaraj and Sana Khan, Hosimin attempts to tell a story about soft feelings that emanate from a hardened mafia don during the evening of his life.

Set in the backdrop of Madurai that seems to be an apt location in Tamil cinema when it comes to depicting a dreaded don and his moods, Hosimin’s tale is about an ageing gangster for whom remorse strikes quite late in his life and what it does when he encounters an innocent youngster and how their lives get entangled.

The premise offers variety of scope to score but the execution is where Hosimin stutters which work against Aayiram Vilakku big time. Hosimin should have exploited the succulent plot and with a veteran like Sathyaraj on board magic could have been created but unfortunately he loses the opportunity due to the lackluster screenplay.
The film finds it an uphill task to connect with the audience resulting in the downward swing of the engaging factor. The narration consistently lags, screenplay meanders, scenes get predictable and the entire concept flounders. Intentions of the director may be worthy but the execution lacks in depth.

In such an unexciting scenario, performances of the cast however good they may be, do not make an impression. Sathyaraj has done total justice to his role as the ageing don while Shanthanoo as the youngster scores well in dance and action sequences. Like in all such movies, the role of a heroine is minimalistic and Sana Khan has delivered what is expected out of her. Delhi Ganesh, Kanja Karuppu, Suman and Theeppeti Ganesan round out the supporting cast.

Ganja Karuppu tries to tickle our funny bones but his antics instead of creating laughter, gives out a dull feel. Most of the scenes travel on a predictable path resulting in no excitement.

Music has been handled by Srikanth Deva and ‘Enna Thavam Seithen’ sung by KJ Yesudas stands out from the rest. Other technical aspects of the film like cinematography and editing are just ordinary.

To sum it all, a plot that could have done wonders at the box office goes flat, thanks to its implementation.

What i say: Does not impress
